Kara DioGuardi American Idol Judge

American Idol and its dwindling ratings have decided to add a fourth member to its panel of judges. Kara DioGuardi is a renowned songwriter and will be a welcomed (read: coherent) addition to American Idol.

And while some are speculating that she will be siding with Paula Abdul and initiate more "girl power" into the show (whatever the hell that means), I think it's safe to say that she will barely be able to understand the stupidness that spews out of Abdul's mouth.

Hopefully, she'll be more like Simon Cowell and will make fun of the auditioners until they cry and curse her out to the camera.

So stay tuned for the new season with Kara DioGuardi, looks like it'll be interesting.

American Idol 7 Recap - May 22, 2008

That's it, it's all over. The winner by 12,000,000 votes is David Cook and I couldn't be happier. He definitely derserves it. Even Simon Cowell admitted he was too hard on him the night before.

So check out Simon's apology, the announcement of the winner, David Cook in tears and, finally, his performance of "Time of My Life"

American Idol 7 Recap - May 14, 2008

And then there were 2.

American Idol 7's Top 3 results show started off as usual, with Ryan Seacrest introducing the judges and then the remaining trio (David Archuleta, David Cook & Syesha Mercado) came out and sang "Ain't No Stopping Us Now."

Then we returned to the trio in a Ford ad singing "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys, which was mediocre compared to the others.

Then after a recap of last night's show, Ryan introduced Idol winner Fantasia who sang a song called "Bore Me." All I can say is, What the f*&@ was that?!?!?! This chick is all kinds of insane. She came out with fuschia hair, danced liked a freak and reminded me very much of Chris Tucker from The Fifth Element. The camera even scanned the judges and you saw Simon Cowell with his jaw on the floor, and not in a good way.

After a look at each of the contestants trips back home and a recap of their time on the show thus far (by the by, each of them broke down and cried), we were finally given the results:

Syesha Mercado was kicked off American Idol 7, to no one's surprise.

See you at the finale.

American Idol 7 Recap - May 13, 2008

For this episode of American Idol 7, the Top 3 had to do one song selected by the judges, one song selected by themselves and one song selected by the producers. It provided for great challenges and great variety.

David Archuleta
Sang:
And So It Goes by Billy Joel (chosen by Paula Abdul)
With You by Chris Brown (chosen by David)
Longer by Dan Fogelberg (chosen by producers)

I have a terrible feeling that David Archuleta is going to win this whole damn thing; not because he's such a great singer (he's not), but because the crowd usually represents the masses and those tweens are incredibly vocal about their love for Monchichi boy.

About his singing: monotonous, he flubbed the lyrics to the Chris Brown song and managed to bore me and creep me out with that weird way he stares at me through the camera. Nevertheless, the eunuch has the girls mesmerized. His dad probably beat them into yelling out his name. The best part? When Simon told him that he was like a "chihuahua trying to be a tiger."

Syesha Mercado
Sang:
If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys (chosen by Randy Jackson)
Fever by Peggy Lee (chosen by Syesha)
Hit Me Up by Gia Farrell (chosen by producers)

Personally, I thought Syesha had a hell of a night and sang the crap out of her songs. She's an entertainer and a performer and despite what the judges said (they blasted her for selecting the Peggy Lee song), I thought she did a fanastic job with every song thrown her way. I think if she cut an album it would be phenomenal. Randy is so freakin' hard on her and I think it's because he wants to have sex with her and knows it'll never happen.

David Cook
Sang:
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack (chosen by Simon Cowell)
Dare You To Move by Switchfoot (chosen by David)
I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith (chosen by producers)

One has to wonder what the hell Simon was thinking with his song selection, but then, the Brit enjoys throwing a monkey wrench into any well laid out plan. Nevertheless, David nailed it. His second song, though, was bo-o-o-o-oo-o-o-o-o-ring. Luckily, he redeemed himself with the last song by singing the tish out of it.

My prediction for who's going home tomorrow:

Syesha Mercado, although I wish it were David Archuleta.

American Idol 7 Recap May 7, 2008

And then there were 3.

So the night started off on American Idol 7 as it always does; Ryan Seacrest introduced all the judges and when I saw what Paula Abdul was wearing, I threw up a bit in my mouth. It was a hideous black lace, one shoulder fiasco. That alone told me she was drunk before the show even started.

The remaining Idols sang "Reelin' in the Years" which was pretty crusty at best.

Then Ryan started off with the voting results and called out the Monchichi:

David Archuleta - You are safe.

Wow, I'm shocked. After commercial, we were shown the perks of being in the Top 4, as the contestants were flown to Vegas on a private jet where they got to enjoy the idiot fanatics and catch The Beatles Love show, which looked pretty amazing.

Then Seacrest called out David Cook:

David Cook - You are safe.

Again, completely shocked by the news. Ryan called out the final two contestants and then went to commercial but not before he nearly made out with Jason Castro. I KNEW IT!

We returned to a horrible Ford ad in which the contestants were dressed like bullfighters and sang "Ring of Fire." Those pants were waaaaay too tight. It even looked like Syesha Mercado had a penis.

Ryan then took some phone calls and 2 of the 5 callers got sh*t on their noses from putting them so far up Simon Cowell's ass. One said that he ought to be knighted; the other asked why he hasn't played James Bond yet. Perhaps I have it all wrong and it is in fact Ryan who is fearful of getting the axe and is attempting to do his own brownnosing. Good job, chap.

Maroon 5 made a guest appearance and sang "If I Never See Your Face Again" and it was quite obvious that Adam Levine was coked up to the nines when Ryan spoke to him afterwards.

Then Bo Bice performed and yes, he still has that greasy on top, burnt on the bottom hairstyle so I had a hard time paying attention to the actual song.

Finally, it was time to announce who was going home.

Syesha Mercado - You are safe

Jason Castro was kicked off American Idol 7! There is a god. Call your local church.

See ya next week.

American Idol 7 Recap - May 6, 2008

American Idol 7 had the Top 4 singing songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which gives them a boatload of leeway in the way of song choices. But sometimes, being given too many options leaves you with the worst possible situation.

So let's see who sang what and how it all went down:

David Cook
Sang: Hungry Like a Wolf by Duran Duran and Baba O'Reilly (Teenage Wasteland) by The Who
When you discover that David Cook is opening the show, you expect a fantastic start to Idol. Well, guess again. His performance, compared to all the others we've seen, sucked moose balls.

But David managed to redeem himself by returning the second time around with "Baba O'Reilly" and he really did a phenomenal job. True to the David Cook trademark.

Syesha Mercado
Sang: Proud Mary by Ike & Tina Turner and A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
I have to admit that Syesha has gotten better and better with each and every show and she blew me away tonight with both performances. She is a class act by any name and I hope she stays in the running until the end, although we all know that the Monchichi is likely going to be in the Top 2. Bastard.

Jason Castro
Sang: I Shot the Sheriff by Bob Marley and Mr. Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan
Ugh! Jackass. This guy really sucks beaver tail (you love it, admit it) and if there is a god, he will be going home tomorrow night. First he turns us off with the cliche of the dreadlocked white guy singing the dreadlocked black guy's music.

Then he drives us crazy even further by forgetting the lyrics in the second song. I mean, come on, you jackass, you're in the Top freakin' 4 man! Get it together. He really gives the impression that he thinks this is a joke.

David Archuleta
Sang: Stand By Me by Ben E. King and Love Me Tender by Elvis Presley
Okay, it seems that the judges; correction - the world, and I are on two very different pages. While everyone thinks he's an amazing singer, I think that he's monotonous and panders to the camera in a way that makes me want to backhand him like a little bitch.

Both songs sounded exactly the same with different lyrics and I felt like throwing up every time he stared at me as though he was afraid his dad was going to beat him after the show. Ohhhhh, snap!

My prediction for who will be going home:

Jason Castro

American Idol 7 Recap - April 30, 2008

And then there were 4.

American Idol 7 started off the night with the Idols singing a bunch of songs in tribute to Neil Diamond. It was incredibly amateur and awful at best. For a show with so many viewers and a sh*tload of money, you'd think a little professionalism would be in order.

Then Ryan Seacrest walked us into a recap of last night's performances; Paula Abdul's screw up didn't make the cut.

But upon returning, Ryan mentioned the fiasco and said that, despite all the rumors circulating on the Internet about Paula, she is part of the Idol family and they are not true. I knew it; they're not prescribed.

Then it was time to call out a couple of contestants:

Jason Castro: You are safe
David Archuleta: You are safe

Wow, there's a freakin' shocker. After the commercial we returned to a great big promo for So You Think You Can Dance, which airs on May 22, 2008. Then it was time to call out more contestants:

David Cook: You are safe
Syesha Mercado: You are in the bottom 2
Brooke White: You are in the bottom 2

Natasha Bedingfield showed up to promote herself and sang "Take Me Away," which is a great song, by the way.

Ryan then took some calls from viewers and one of them was a woman who kissed Simon Cowell when he was all of 8 years old. He called her his first crush. It was nice to see Simon blush, although his chest is always red.

We returned to witness another Ford ad; it was cute but nothing spectacular.

Neil Diamond then performed "Pretty Amazing Grace" off his new album. It was like watching an old fart at a child's party.

Finally, it was time to decide one person's fate.

Brooke White was sent home tonight. And boy did she ever have a meltdown. It was touching and brought tears to my eyes.

American Idol 7 Recap - April 29, 2008

Tonight was Neil Diamond night on American Idol 7, as the popular singer mentored the Top 5 through their two song choices. Of note, some chick was holding up a sign in the audience that read "My husband has a man-crush on Seacrest." Sweetie, your husband doesn't have a man-crush; he's a flamer.

As well, after the first round of songs, the judges were asked to give their opinions of the first songs sung, Paula Abdul, the sober one of the bunch, goes on a tangent about how she enjoyed Jason Castro's first performance but thought the second one was better. Problem is that the second one had yet to happen. Give her another bourbon.

Now let's get to the performances:

Jason Castro
Sang: Forever in Blue Jeans AND September Morn

Ugh! Please someone put this guy out of his misery. The redundancy of his sound shone through this evening because he had two performances and sounded exactly the same in both, despite the varying lyrics. It was atrocious, to say the least.

David Cook
Sang: I'm Alive AND All I Really Need Is You

The first performance was blah so I spent my time wondering why the letters AC were on his jacket and guitar. Then I figured that it was his brother's initials (he's suffering from brain cancer). But David managed to knock it out of the ballpark with his second performance. It was sex incarnate.

Brooke White
Sang: I'm A Believer AND I Am... I Said

Brooke is, how do you say? Strange. She comes out for her first performance belting out the song essentially made popular by the recent Shrek movies, and it was laughable at best. But then she showed off why she's still there with her second performance, sitting by the piano and wearing her heart on her sleeve.

David Archuleta
Sang: Sweet Caroline AND America

Monotonous and predictable (God I hope his dad doesn't hunt me down and beat me), David sang the only way he knows how and the judges ate it up. His second performance was a very smart choice (Simon Cowell agrees) and I'm sure he'll sail on through to the Top 4.

Syesha Mercado
Sang: Hello Again AND Thank the Lord For the Nighttime

I thought it bizarre that Neil Diamond asked her for a hug after she showed him what she can do (he probably just wanted a good breast squish), but Syesha really showed off her talent tonight with two very different performances that were equally impressive. I think that Simon is right that she's going to be in the bottom tomorrow, but it's not because she's bad; it's because she's just not as popular as the rest of the crew.

My predictions for who's going home:
Syesha Mercado
(but I wish it was Jason Castro)

American Idol 7 Recap - April 23, 2008

And then there were 5.

While introducing the judges, Ryan Seacrest kissed Paula Abdul on the cheek and then kissed Simon Cowell on the head. Simon was in shock but he shouldn't be, he is, after all, the reason why Ryan is a millionaire and a mainstay Hollywood host.

So the Idols started off on American Idol 7 with an opening number entitled "All I Ask of You" and it bored me to death. Then we got a recap of what happened the evening before. Blah, blah, blah.

Ryan then sat down with Andrew Lloyd Webber to ask about the contestants, and I have to admit, this guy is seriously weird, with his hand gestures and constant rambling. Finally, Ryan asked him what he would call the song he would write for Paula and Simon and he gave two:

Time to Say Goodbye
How Can I Miss You if You Won't Go Away?

Priceless.

We returned from commercial to an ad the Idols did for Ford with the song "Tainted Love." It was great.

George W. Bush and his stepford wife had a message thanking everyone who donated to Idol Gives Back, especially considering his party sank every American dollar into the Iraq war.

Finally Ryan called out two contestants to go over the results:

David Cook - You are safe
David Archuleta - You are safe

Then we were forced to hear about past Idols who made it big in Broadway, in particular Tamyra Gray and Clay Aiken. Big whoop.

Leona Lewis then made an appearance and sang her big hit, "Bleeding Love," because Simon is backing her and is making sure to cover the entire US and get her name out there.

Then Ryan called out the remaining contestants:

Brooke White - You are safe (WTF?!?!?)
Syehsa Mercado - You are in the bottom 2
Jason Castro - You are safe
Carly Smithson - You are in the bottom 2

Of course, American Idol got smart about it and mde the girls sing before the final result to ensure that they could get the lyrics out.

Finally we were told who was leaving:

Carly Smithson was kicked off American Idol 7.

Stay tuned for next week, when the Top 5 have to perform Neil Diamond songs.

American Idol 7 Recap - April 22, 2008

Tonight's American Idol 7 episode featured Andrew Lloyd Webber's Broadway hits, so as you can imagine, it was quite excruciating, especially because Webber kept criticizing each contestant.

So here's how it went:

Syesha Mercado
Sang: One Rock'n'Roll Too Many from Starlight Express

Syesha was all kinds of sexy tonight and her performance was stellar, to say the least. She impressed the judges and viewers alike I'm certain. I did otice that she was barefoot and seemed to have unusually large feet. But I digress.

Jason Castro
Sang: Memory from Cats

Wow, was this ever a terrible performance. Jason just is not cut out for Broadway musicals, it's quite obvious. Nevertheless, he gave it the same old Jason Castro touch he does with every single song and I yawned my way through it.

Brooke White
Sang: You Must Love Me from Evita

This girl is starting to get on my last nerve. First off, she had to restart the song because she lost her lyric, then she stumbled through the song and her voice cracked throughout the song. Perhaps it was her way of giving the song her "touch" but it was definitely rough.

David Archuleta
Sang: Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera

Before he sang, Ryan Seacrest allowed a few tweens onstage so that they could give David a hug... how freakin' sweet. Then David broke into song and although it wasn't awful, it was, in the immortal words of Simon Cowell, "forgettable." And tonight, he resembled a Monchichi.

Carly Smithson
Sang: Jesus Christ Superstar

Although Carly was wearing a hideous dress, she sang the hell out of this song and i was a phenomenal performance. The judges loved her and she had a T-shirt that said "Simon Loves Me (this week)" which was quite fitting. I wonder if she had one that said "Simon thinks I suck eggs" handy in case he blasted her.

David Cook
Sang: Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera

They obviously saved the best for last. And David did not disappoint. He didn't give the song his David twist, but he sang the crap out of this song and kept giving the camera his best "I want to take you bed" face. Hey, it worked for me.

So my predictions for the bottom 3 are:

Brooke White
Jason Castro
Carly Smithson

And Brooke White will be going home because she was awful.

American Idol 7 Recap - April 16, 2008

And then there were 6.

Tonight's episode really pissed me off because Ryan Seacrest and the rest of the gang played with the public's head regarding the bottom 3 until about 10 minutes before it all ended. Idiots.

So to start, the gang sang "One Sweet Day," which was nice.

Then there was a recap of the evening before.

Then Ryan began calling out the contestants:

Jason Castro - Please stand to the left of me
David Cook - Please stand to the right of me
Carly Smithson - Please stand to the left of me
Kristy Lee Cook - Please stand to the right of me

Upon returning from commercial, we saw the gang perform in another cool Ford commercial in which they sang "I Want to Break Free."

Elliot Yamin took to the stage to perform one of his songs called "Free," and at the end of his performance, he opened his hand to reveal the message "We miss you mom." She passed away recently and it was touching. He looked really different with new white teeth, a mop of hair and a beard to boot.

Then Ryan called out more contestants:

Syesha Mercado - Please stand to the left of me
Brooke White - Please stand to the right of me

Then we went to commercial again and returned to take some phone calls that were crusty as hell. By the way, David Cook is single.

Mariah Carey then showed up looking hot to sing "Bye Bye," but when I saw her diamond-encrusted mic and stand, I was disgusted.

Finally the last contestant was called out:

David Archuleta - You are safe.

Then David Cook and Syesha Mercado were told to switch sides. So one side had David Cook, Jason Castro and Carly Smithson. The other side had Kristy Lee Cook, Syesha Mercado and Brooke White.

Ryan asked David Archuleta to go and stand next to the group he thought was safe. By the way, David Archuleta was wearing the Michael Jackson/Thriller jacket for some reason.

David Archuleta refused to pick sides and just sat on the stage with his legs crossed. So Ryan told him that if he wanted to pick the right side, he'd have to head towards the David Cook, Jason Castro, Carly Smithson side.

So the bottom 3 were:

Syesha Mercado
Brooke White
Kristy Lee Cook

Then Syesha was told she was safe for another week. So who got the boot?

Kristy Lee Cook was kicked off American Idol 7 tonight. Some of you may think it was a long time coming, but I thought she was improving with every week.

Anyhow, til next week.

American Idol 7 Recap - April 15, 2008

Tonight's American Idol 7 was Mariah Carey night and I was surprised to see that she was quasi-normal. Not the typical toy dog carrying, sunglass wearing diva she portrays herself to be. She did look like she got herself a brand new pair of puppies though.

And so the evening was filled with familiar songs and Simon Cowell was right: the men definitely blew the women out of the water tonight.

So let's get to it:

David Archuleta
Sang: Miracle

Even though this boy gives me the freakin' creeps, it's true that he did a stellar job opening up the show. But still, the lip licking and constant verge on tears behavior has got to stop.

Carly Smithson
Sang: Without You

Although it wasn't incredibly memorable, Carly did a decent job with the song, although the judges simply were not impressed with her performance. She looked awful tonight; like someone's mom who went to a club filled with young people.

Syesha Mercado
Sang:
Vanishing
I thought Syesha did a fantastic job even though she's no where near Mariah Carey status. She gave it her all and sang the song well, but unfortunately, I think she has likely sung her last song.

Brooke White
Sang: Hero

You could tell that Brooke felt completely out of her element tonight and she proved it by rushing through the song and making herself look bad. The song suited her style, no doubt, but after she stumbled through the end of the song, voters will certainly take note and leave her at the bottom of the pile.

Kristy Lee Cook
Sang: Forever

Although I thought Kristy should've been voted off the show early on, she seems to be picking up the ball lately and doing a better job with her songs than usual. She picked the right song, sang it the right way and looked as gorgeous as always. Although I do think that the wardrobe person stuck the girls in some kind of '70s rut with those nasty ass outfits.

David Cook
Sang: Always Be My Baby

The best freakin' performance by a mile, David gave Mariah's song a hint of rock and roll and blew everyone away. Even Simon was singing his praises. Oh man, this guy is going to sign a record deal the moment this show ends.

Jason Castro
Sang: I Don't Wanna Cry

At first, Jason's voice was so low that I could barely hear him singing, but then he stepped it up a notch and sang his heart out. He reminded me a bit of Damien Rice tonight and I was happy he closed off the evening on such a good note.

My prediction for the bottom 3 tomorrow night are:

Syesha Mercado
Carly Smithson
Kristy Lee Cook

Come back tomorrow; I'll let you know what happens.

American Idol 7 Recap - April 10, 2008

I am in complete and utter shock as I write this. Now before I get started I have to admit that I missed the first 30 minutes of the show, but I'll tell you what I know.

To start, after watching Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks sing "No Air," Jordin was presented with myriad awards from Ryan Seacrest because I'm guessing they wanted to prove that American Idol winners don't vanish into nothingness but can make it big on pop charts.

Then I noiced that David Cook, David Archuleta and Brooke White were safe and sitting on the couch. I knew then that something was awry.

We returned from commercial to be met by a Ford commercial that the gang was in. It was one of the better ones, as they sang "I Just Want To Celebrate" and drove over paint to show a well done globe.

Then more contestants were called to the stage:

Jason Castro - You (and your ukelele) are safe
Kristy Lee Cook - You are safe

Which meant that the last 3 contestants,

Syesha Mercado
Carly Smithson
Michael Johns

were in the bottom 3
! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Michael Johns!?!?!?

Then Bono explained that we should all go to ONE.org to help save the world and Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Barack Obama also made appearances via taped recordings.

Then it was finally time to reveal who was a goner:

Michael Johns was voted off American Idol! I am still in complete and utter shock. He will be missed.

American Idol Gives Back Recap - April 9, 2008

Let me say that it was definitely an interesting night and you should donate even if you didn't see the show. 1-877-IDOL-AID or go to AmericanIdol.com to donate.

So we started off the show with the killer dance troop from So You Think You Can Dance and they were amazing, to say the least.

Then I'm not certain what happened because I left the room for a while, but when I returned, Teri Hatcher was singing "Before He Cheats" and her costar was strumming the guitar. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone and yes, she did a terrible job.

Then Miley Cyrus and Billy Crystal met up on stage and took up 5 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. Never. Then she sang and changed the channel until she was done. I know everyone loves her but she annoys me. Her and that nasty white tongue of hers.

Then Ryan Seacrest introduced Bono who was in Africa talking to the people. It was very touching and moving.

Then Fergie came on stage and sang "Finally" with John Legend on piano. Then she introduced Heart who sang Barracuda, and Fergie came out to sing and show the fat lead singer just how mobile she could be.

After that, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham came on asking for donations. David is really better seen and not heard, but if you looked over at Victoria every time he spoke, you'd think that she coached him. It was bizarre.

We then went back to Bono in Africa and after he was done talking to a young child, he introduced Annie Lennox who was in the southern part of Africa with 4 brothers. She broke down crying, which made me break down and then she was on the Idol stage singing "Rivers to Cross."

After Celine Dion came and went, Jimmy Kimmel came on stage to introduce Simon Cowell and man, did he ever bash him good.

Carrie Underwood showed up and did a fantastic rendition of George Michael's "Praying for Time." She's awesome.

Gloria Estefan and Shiela E. got on stage to sing "Get on Your Feet" which was hella boring.

Sarah Silverman cracked me up as she introduced Forest Whitaker and his wife who were in Africa. I must say that I cried profusely during this segment because I saw a little baby with tubes all over her face because she contracted malaria from a mosquito. It was gut-wrenching.

Then Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister of Great Britain was gracious enough to donate $200 million on behalf of GB. That was awesome. George Bush really doesn't have the money to spare.

Reese Witherspoon then visited with a family in the US.

The Idol group got off phone duty long enough to sing "Seasons of Love" for the crowd and was lauded for it.

Dane Cook came on stage and despite his being a comedian, didn't do any funnies, but he did introduce Alicia Keys who was in Africa. Of all the people who went to Africa, Alicia was the only one whose sunglasses could've paid for half of the necessities for those poor people. Not to mention she was wearing more makeup than Cover Girl.

Miley Cyrus performed again so, as you can imagine, I changed the channel until she was done. Then Miley and her dad Billy Ray Cyrus went to his hometown in Kentucky to hang out with a family who needed help.

Ryan Seacrest introduced the Russian Idol who ended up being none other than Robin Williams and he was freakin' hilarious.

As the show was about to come to a close, David Spade came out and introduced Brad Pitt in New Orleans, and then he showed up on stage and the crowd went ballistic. He's still got it.

Brad introduced Daughtry in Uganda and they sang a beautiful song called "What About Now?" and the whole crowd there joined in. It was great.

Finally, Mariah Carey closed up the show with a song called "Fly Like A Bird." The song sucked, she sucked, and it was so obvious that she was just there to push her new album. Scab.

American Idol 7 Recap - April 8, 2008

Today's theme on American Idol 7 for the Top 8 was "pick a song that inspires you." Sounds cheesy, but you'd expect them to nail the song if it inspired them, right? Riiiight.

So it all started and I was blown away from the start.

Michael Johns
Sang: Dream On by Aerosmith
Oh my goodness, this boy has got me all hot and bothered. I adore him. His face, his accent, his singing... I only wish he worked out a bit. But I digress. He did an amazing job.

Syesha Mercado
Sang: I Believe by Fantasia Barrino

Uh, well, uh, I, uh, think that this pretty girl is going to find herself on the chopping block. No one really wants to hear a song by Fantasia, much less have it sung in a worse way. She choked big time tonight.

Jason Castro
Sang: Somewhere Over the Rainbow as sung by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole

Is it just me, or did Jason remind you slightly of Tiny Tim with his banjo tonight? It wasn't awful, mind you, but it did seem like a bit of a joke.

Kristy Lee Cook
Sang: Do It Anyway by Martina McBride

You won't hear me saying this very often, but this Kristy really impressed me tonight. I'm not much of a country music fan, but she belted away at the song and did a very impressive job. She nailed it. I think she might actually avoid ending up in the bottom 3 this week.

David Cook
Sang: Innocent by Our Lady Peace

I love OLP, but this is one of those songs that I didn't like so much. And while David usually blows me away with whatever rendition he bites, this time he stuck to the song the way it was meant to be sung and he left everybody wanting more. But he's still a star in my book.

Carly Smithson
Sang: The Show Must Go On by Queen
I like Carly but her version of this song sucked eggs. It was hella boring and she looked evil throughout the performance. I think that she's going to be part of the bottom 3 this week. In the immortal word of Simon Cowell, "sorry."

David Archuleta
Sang: Angels by Robbie Williams

For the first time, I didn't feel creeped out by David; his father is another story entirely, though. He really picked an awesome song and I think the fact that he played the piano kept his eyes off the camera, which allowed me to feel safe watching.

Brooke White
Sang: You've Got A Friend by James Taylor

Ugh, this performance was very "let's hold hands and sing koombaya," not what I had in mind when it comes to closing off the show. I always picture Brooke with flowers in her hair, strumming a guitar under a tree in a park while she puffs away at a joint at 4:20. Bottom 3 for you, baby.

So to close it up, my prediction for the bottom 3 are:

American Idol 7 Recap - April 2, 2008

American Idol 7 brought the Top 9 down to the Top 8, and it wasn't an easy ride getting there.

First, the group sang Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" and then there was a recap of the evening before's performances.

Then 3 were called out to see who would be in the bottom 3:

Michael Johns - You are safe
David Archuleta - You are safe
Carly Smithson - You are safe

Then, Ryan Seacrest took some live calls, which really weren't all that interesting. I guess this is their way of trying to make the live show more interactive.

Then, a group called the Clark Brothers performed "This Little Light of Mine" and all I could say was WTF?!?!?

Then, 3 more contestants were called out:

David Cook - You are safe
Ramiele Malubay - You are in the bottom 3
Kristy Lee Cook - You are in the bottom 3

After the millionth commercial break, we returned to a recap of past Idol contestants (not winners) who went country, and Bo Bice, who went rock and roll.

The last 3 were then called out:

Syesha Mercado - You are safe
Brooke White - You are in the bottom 3
Jason Castro - You are safe

After yet another commercial break, this time there was a Ford ad where the Top 9 sang Run DMC's "Tricky", we returned to hear more about Idol Gives Back, which airs April 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.

Dolly Parton, in all her plastic surgery glory, performed a song called "Jesus & Gravity," but it's obvious by her breasts that she's doing everything she can to keep gravity from winning.

Finally, we got to hear who was leaving American Idol - RAMIELE MALUBAY was kicked off the show and the girl really lost it, complete with boogers and the lack of breath that goes with bawling.

See you next week.

American Idol 7 Recap - April 1, 2008

American Idol 7's Top 9 were give the task of Dolly Parton night on April 1, 2008 and I have to say, I thought it was going to be much worse than it actually turned out. And for the record, I think this was the first time that Paula Abdul was actually coherent. Freaky.

So here it goes:

Brooke White
Sang: Joleen

She was sitting on a chair strumming a guitar and I'm not sure, but it looked like she had a serious hunch back. But I digress. I was bored to tears with her performance and I just hate the way she reacts when the judges give her their criticism.

David Cook
Sang: Little Sparrow

Before he sang his song, David had a little sitdown with Beetlejuice Ryan Seacrest and explained how he took his previous arrangements from other bands but this time... this time it would be his own. And man did this boy blow me away. It was great. By the way, love the much needed haircut.

Ramiele Malubay
Sang: Do I Ever Cross Your Mind

First off, the music drowned her out completely; second, I was so unimpressed. I can't wait until she goes away. She's cute, but cute don't cut it 'round here.

Jason Castro
Sang: Travelin' Through

Before he belted out his tune, Ryan spoke about all the fan mail that Jason received and even read one aloud. Sweet. Anyhow, it was a cute performance at best, but I'm guessing the ladies will keep him in the game.

Carly Smithson
Sang: Here You Come Again

She is fantastic, I have to say. This girl could sing and she proved it once again. Unfortunately, Simon Cowell was right when he said, "Talk to whoever's dressing you. You don't look like a star." So true, she really looked like she was going out to some dive bar.

David Archuleta
Sang: Smokey Mountain Memories

Ugh! I really can't stand this troll doll and it's getting worse and worse each week. But I did love how they panned over to his dad, who is being accused of bullying the other contestants. Loser.

Kristy Lee Cook
Sang: Coat of Many Colors

I almost fell asleep 3 times during this minute and a half. This girl is hot but she dresses like the Amish (shout out to my Amish beauties) and she's just as exciting. Anyway, Simon told her she sucked once again and she retorted with "Thanks Simon, I love you." I'm guessing she really did blow him out of his socks like she said she would.

Syesha Mercado
Sang: I Will Always Love You

I saw this song choice coming a mile away, and I have to say that she wasn't bad at all. She's no Whitney Houston, but she does remind of the woman who costarred as her sister in The Bodyguard.

Michael Johns
Sang: It's All Wrong But It's Alright

Oh my God, where do I start? This man sang and my underwear magically came off. HIs bluesy version of the song melted me away and gave me the chills big-times. He was absolutely phenomenal.

So my prediction for the bottom 3 is:

Carly Smithson
Kristy Lee Cook
Ramiele Malubay

Let's see if I nailed it... I'll let you know tomorrow.

American Idol 7 Recap - March 26, 2008

Well tonight was the American Idol 7 results show and it was a shocker... well, not really.

So to start, the gang broke into the requisite crusty song, complete with smiles and jumpy dancing.

Then Ryan Seacrest went on about how you can download all the full-length songs on iTunes and they spent a lot of time on this which had me figuring that no one was really downloading anything because you can get it all for free online somehow. So they needed to tell you that it was the "full length" song. So pay up.

The recap of last night's show took over and we heard snippets of all their singing and some judges' comments. But when I heard David Cook again tonight, I got the freakin' chills. That awesome bastard.

So now it was time to call out the contestants and go over who's in and who's in the bottom 3.

Chikezie Ezie - You are in the bottom three
Brooke White - You are safe
Carly Smithson - You are safe
(she admitted she was nervous because she was wearing Spanx the night before to prove that she wasn't pregnant with David Hernandez's baby)

Already I'm so happy that we might be seeing the last of Chikezie...

Upon return, the gang showed off their latest Ford commercial. Yay.

Then, more judging...

David Archuleta - You are safe (Ryan sent him to sit down pretty fast which leaves me with the sneaking suspicion that David may be the first male on the show that Ryan is not attracted to.)
David Cook - You are safe
Syesha Mercaso - You are in the bottom three
Michael Johns - You are safe

Ryan Seacrest then took live calls including one that had a caller asking Simon Cowell how she can land Ryan's job, to which he responded "Well, you don't need a lot of talent." Priceless, I tell ya.

Then Kimberley Locke from Season 2 got another 15 minutes... she mentioned her new restaurant Croton Creek, her upcoming sophomore album, and the fact the she lost 40 pounds, although she still had Oprah arms. Then she sang a song called "Fall" and everyone waited for it to be over because it was so incredibly boring. She should stick to what she knows best... food.

Finally, the final 3 contestants were called out:

Ramiele Malubay - You are safe
Jason Castro - You are in the bottom three
Kristy Lee Cook - You are safe

Wow, I'm shocked, I thought everyone loved John Travolta. But then, Kristy did sing a song that made it mandatory to keep her in the game.

So, it all came down to the moment of truth. Quickly, Jason Castro was told he was safe. And before we knew it, Chikezie Ezie was sent packing, yo. I guess Chikezie Ezie isn't.

So Chikezie Ezie has been kicked off American Idol 7. Enjoy.

American Idol 7 Recap - March 25, 2008

Tonight's theme on American Idol 7 was: Pick a song from the year you were born.

And many of the singers got it right. Some, however, should be going home.

Ramiele Malubay
Sang: Alone by Heart
If you've ever heard Carrie Underwood sing this song, you'd know that nobody else should go near it. Ramiele, however, is naive and unknowing. She tried her best and even hit some good notes, but at the end of the day, Ramiele will likely be going home.

Jason Castro
Sang: Fragile by Sting
You gotta hand it to this guy. Week after week, he picks songs that are perfect for his voice. And is it just me or is he looking more and more like Travolta?!?

Syesha Mercado
Sang: If I Was Your Woman by Gladys Knight and the Pips
She was fantastic and hopefully she doesn't get kicked off tomorrow because she's got soul, yo.

Chikezie Ezie
Sang: If Only For One Night by Luther Vandross
Chikezie definitely sings as well as most RnB singers today, but he's no D'Angelo, if you know what I mean. But then, D'Angelo is all fat and bloated now. But I digress. Although he sings well, he's so damn forgettable. If it weren't for his name, I'd know nothing about him.

Brooke White
Sang: Every Breath You Take by The Police
he sat at the piano, took off her shoes and choked right off the top. Then she got hold of her shaky self and managed to belt out a pretty good performance although the judges, the ones whose opinions actually matter, thought otherwise.

Michael Johns
Sang: We Are The Champions by Queen
Boy did this guy ever rock it out. Straight from the heart, he sang his pretty little ass off. And I must say, he was freakin' adorable growing up and got hotter and hotter as the years passed. Give me some of the Aussieness...

Carly Smithson
Sang: Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
This is the biggest cliche song of our generation but Carly did a pretty good rendition although the judges, again, the ones with penises, thought she was a trainwreck. This girl can hit any note and hold out without inhaling for a long period of time, you gotta give her that. I'm sure the boys would like that little factoid.

David Archuleta
Sand: You're The Voice by John Farnham
One of the most overrated singers in Idol history, David Archuleta sang a song that no one has ever heard of and yet the girls are all falling all over themselves to get a piece of that tiny little action. I mean, this guy reminds me of a freakin' eunuch. Could a man/boy be any more asexual?!? Oh and Simon was hilarious when he said he felt like it was a theme park performance and he expected animals to come out of the forest to join in with him.

Kristy Lee Cook
Sang: God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood
Wow, this girl is so smart that she masked her inability to sing by singing a song that no one, especially Simon Cowell, could criticize. Imagine a Brit telling an all-American girl who just finished singing "I'm proud to be an American" that she sucked and the song sucked. We're talking full on riots.

David Cook
Sang: Billie Jean by Michael Jackson
If you didn't get to see David perform this version of "Billie Jean," that was ripped off from Chris Cornell of Soundgarden (Beetlejuice, I mean Ryan Seacrest mentioned it but you likely couldn't hear over all the screaming), it was fan-freakin'-tastic, amazing even. This was one of the best performances I have likely ever seen on Idol.

My prediction: The bottom 3 will be Ramiele Malubay, Kristy Lee Cook and Syesha Mercado.

Ferras - Hollywood's Not America

Listen to and watch the video for Hollywood's Not America

If you haven't yet heard of Ferras (or Ferras Alqaisi), it's because you didn't catch his name in passing on American Idol. His life is an interesting one, as his father tricked him after his parents divorce and took him to Amman, Jordan to raise him.

But I digress; Ferras is going to be the next big artist since John Mayer because his lyrics are phenomenal, his look is an acquired taste, and his music is just touching.

He debuted his single on MTV's TRL on March 17, 2008, and now he's here, at LadyThrills, to turn you on.

Check out his video for "Hollywood's Not America," and remember; you saw it here first. This is the "exit" song used for part of American Idol's Season 7 losers. There's a little factoid you can use to impress your friends...
