At 8 years old, Keith was already walking away with prizes from talent contests and when he was all of 12, he was booking his band in local clubs in Australia.

By the time he was 15, Keith had no doubt in his mind that he wanted to be a country music singer and he dropped out of school to pursue his dream full time.

The next few years would prove difficult for Urban, as he was unable to get signed by a major record label and did not want to make the move to Nashville until he was certain that he could make it in the United States.

By 1992, Urban picked himself up and made the move to his dream locale - Nashville. Although he started out as the singer in a band called The Ranch, and the trio released an album in 1997, Urban soon opted to go it alone.

But by the end of 1997, Urban had become severely addicted to cocaine and his career took a backseat to his habit. It took him a year to realize that he had hit bottom and in 1998, Urban finally checked himself into the rehabilitation clinic, Cumberland Heights.
